Colt’s Carrier Ethernet Multi-Service Platform, Powered by Cyan, Wins 2014 GTB Innovation Award

Colt’s Carrier Ethernet Multi-Service Platform, Powered by Cyan, Wins 2014 GTB Innovation Award

14 May 2014 / Petaluma, CA

Cyan (NYSE: CYNI), a leading provider of software-defined networking (SDN) and packet-optical solutions for network operators, announced that Colt’s Carrier Ethernet Multi-Service Platform (MSP), supported by Cyan’s Blue Planet SDN and Z-Series Packet Optical platforms, won the Global Telecoms Business Innovation Award 2014 for “Fixed Network Infrastructure Innovation.” The awards were presented at the Innovation Awards Dinner May 14 following the GTB Innovation Summit in London.

As Europe’s leading information delivery platform, Colt launched a new next-generation modular Carrier Ethernet MSP. The fiber-optic network was designed to maximize scale, simplicity, and service agility, while meeting the requirements of service-level agreements (SLAs) and allowing for success-based growth and expansion over time.  Cyan’s Blue Planet SDN software and Z-Series Packet Optical platforms played a central role in helping Colt build its MSP network. “Colt wanted to build more orchestration and more automation into their multiservice network. This approach adopts major SDN concepts, including multi-vendor orchestration from a single SDN controller, and is helping solve Colt’s real-world issues today,” says Joe Cumello, chief marketing officer at Cyan. “Each award win motivates us to keep pushing the envelope with our technology and we’re excited to play a major role in helping network operators lower costs, simplify network operations and break free from expensive, vertically integrated legacy network architectures.”

Now in its eighth year, the GTB Innovation Awards honor innovative projects built by the joint work of global telecom operators, service providers, equipment vendors, and suppliers that better serve the telecom industry’s end customers. For Cyan, this latest award win joins a number of recognitions in the past year including the 2014 NetEvents Cloud Innovation Award for “NFV Solution for Carriers”, Light Reading’s 2013 Leading Lights Award for “Best New Telecom Product” and TelecomAsia’s 2013 Innovation and Reader’s Choice Award for “SDN Innovation of the Year”.
