The move from closed, custom, hardware-based networks to open, cloud-native, software-based networks brings with it the opportunity for disaggregation and the ability to rapidly innovate new dynamic and flexible services by avoiding today’s typically static and fixed services infrastructure. For 5G to be a commercial success beyond simply augmenting LTE with new spectrum, it will need the incremental business and operational flexibility that disaggregated networks offer.
